Life can change in the blink of an eye, especially when faced with a cancer diagnosis. The news sends you into an unexpected rollercoaster of emotions and challenges. Whether it's struggling with the shock of the diagnosis or navigating the uncertainties and changes, it's important to recognize that despite the unsettling nature of cancer, there are ways to thrive, regain control and find support amidst the chaos.

What We Aren’t Told When Diagnosed With Cancer: Unspoken Challenges

Your life changes in an instant:

The news of a diagnosis almost instantly changes your life. In a blink of an eye your reality turns into medical terminology that is unfamiliar, a sense of urgency with appointments and tests, and feelings of overwhelm with many unknowns, uncertainties, and new information you weren’t recruiting.

You may feel like you've lost control of your life:

So much is presented to you in a short time, decisions to be made, waiting for test results, doctor consults, appointments taking over your days, not to mention uncertainties and fear that come with treatment plans and other unknowns with family and work schedules.

Your emotions may feel like a rollercoaster ride:

Emotions can be a turbulent ride during a cancer diagnosis, treatment, and even after treatment. You will feel a range of emotions that range from the initial shock to fear, hope to despair. Embracing and processing these emotions is a vital part of the healing journey.

Treatment doesn’t have to knock you down:

You’ve probably heard all the horror stories with chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Treatment doesn’t have to make you feel haggard and sick, there are ways to reduce and alleviate treatment side effects without adding more medication to your already long list of meds. Feeling ill and getting beat up with treatment shouldn’t be considered the norm in my opinion.

There is a gap between medical and emotional support:

Unfortunately, the reality is the medical system may not always provide the emotional support needed during a cancer journey. I’ve had clients share with me their experiences when they’ve shown emotion during office visits. Sadly, these have been less than compassionate.

The medical team has a job to kill the disease, sadly there is a gap when it comes to emotional support.

What We Aren’t Told When Diagnosed With Cancer: Empowering Truths

There are natural effective ways to help cope:

Incorporating grounding techniques, meditation, and aromatherapy into your daily routine can provide a sense of stability and help you process the profound changes that come with a diagnosis.

Grounding by getting your bare feet in the grass, use guided meditations, and Wild Orange essential oil to help lift your mood. These simple practices can serve as anchors, allowing your nervous system and mind to slow down enough to reduce the overwhelm, stress, and anxiety.

You have more control than you think:

Contrary to what others may imply, and even what your own mind might tell you, it is possible to gain control of your situation. Advocate for yourself by asking questions and requesting the space to learn and help you understand and process what is being presented to you. Don’t let the urgency imposed force hasty decision making.

Recognize the power you have over your mind, your journey, and the choices you make. The mind is a powerful tool however it can also become a weapon used against ourself. Sit with the thoughts that come in asking them if they are helpful or hurtful, factual or not and don’t focus on the thoughts that aren’t factual and NOT serving you. Embracing this control can be a catalyst for positive change and help you thrive through your journey.

Feeling your emotions will help you heal:

Allowing yourself to feel and express emotions is crucial for healing. Suppressing emotions may only prolong the healing process. Embrace the highs and lows, allow the tears to flow to release endorphins which can help ease both physical and emotional pain. Recognize that each emotion is a step towards understanding and acceptance.

natural detox remedies can reduce treatment Side effects:

The liver can get congested when chemotherapy and other medications are used in treatment. It is okay to explore natural detox remedies to support your body during treatment. Simple interventions like daily epsom salt baths and caster oil packs over your liver can help alleviate side effects and help move dead cancer cells and waste from the body.

Emotional support will help you thrive:

It's crucial to explore complementary therapies and other resources to support your emotional well-being. The most valuable support can come from someone who has walked a similar path with cancer.

Those individuals have a deeper understanding and can relate to the challenges you are faced with. They can provide insights, empathy, and practical advice that medical professionals may not fully grasp. Connecting with others who have faced similar challenges can help you thrive rather than going through it in survival mode.

This emotional support will help you navigate the treatment phase and especially afterward when the post cancer journey starts.
